The Top 10 Most Popular TLDs
The annual Global Domain Report from InterNetX, commissioned by SEDO, includes interesting information about the domain name market, such as the top 10 most popular domain name TLDs.

Noteworthy Numbers
Not entirely surprising, the gTLD .com is still by far the most popular. Its share of .com domain names has been growing since the early 1990s. Number 2 is .tk (Tokelau), a ccTLD that has a cost-free policy. In the Netherlands, we've surpassed 6.3 million registrations, a high number relative to the population. Although "split internet" is looming due to geopolitical circumstances, there has been an increase in the number of ccTLD .ru registrations, although the absolute number is still relatively low at 5.7. The largest growth is attributed to the African extension .ga.
Newcomers to the market
The number of domain extensions keeps growing, with no signs of stopping. According to the Regental Availability, the newcomers in 2022 are .day, .au, .boo, .rsvp, and .kids. It is worth noting that the .au extension was only accessible through subTLDs such as .com.au and .net.au. This is similar to the situation in the United Kingdom, where .uk was introduced and .co.uk remains very popular.
